About the event

Join us at the Central Library (79 Highland Ave) for an in-person painting program with Alex Makes Art!

This joy-filled program is part of the Somerville Public Library and the City of Somerville Health and Human Services Department's "Paint Your Pride!"Community Art series! Completed works will be displayed in the Library's Gallery @ SPL for Pride Month!

How to Participate:

Patrons should register below to attend this event. Supplies will be provided and you'll have a chance to grab a canvas, and express who you are with paint and other mixed media! If you are looking for texture, color, fun, expression through play and encouragement, and accessibility for any level of participant, this is the perfect workshop for you! Alex will talk about mark making, process play, and walk us through a variety of paint materials and scenarios where each paint utensil/technique could be convenient. Patrons will have the option to leave their completed canvases with the Library to be displayed during our Gallery @ SPL Tiny Art Show in June.

About Alex Makes Art:

Alex is a multimedia maker, creative instructor, experience-facilitator and public artist-about-town. For more info, visit: https://www.alexmakesart.com/

About Paint Your Pride:

Expressing one’s pride in their individual identities is critical for one’s well-being. Asserting who we are is an act of self-love and self-care. Samples of queer designs meant to inspire will be provided at a several events, and through take-and-make opportunities, but participants are free to paint (or draw, color, or sketch) in any way that best expresses who they are. We hope this experience of painting and sharing who you are with the community will bring moments of joy, creativity, and of course, pride!

All completed canvases and artwork should be turned into the Somerville Public Library by June 1 to be included in our “Paint Your Pride Tiny Art Show,” showcased in the Gallery @ SPL during the month of June.

Please stop by our Gallery in June to take a look at what our community has created, but we especially hope you will join us for a Reception on Saturday, June 15 to celebrate the artists and their work.
